Finding the best Couples or Family Therapist for you
Many find it difficult to navigate the space of finding a counsellor that they connect with and that meets their needs. This process is made more difficult by the differing terminology. Broadly speaking the terms ‘Therapy' and ‘Counselling’ can be used interchangably. However Clinical Family Therapy and Family Counselling differ in the training and qualifications of the Therapist/Counsellor. A Clinical Family Therapist has a post graduate Masters degree and must be registered with the Australian Association of Family Therapists. A family Counsellor may have a range of more generic counselling qualifications. Relationship Counselling, Couples Counselling and Couples Therapy can all refer to the same thing. I encourage you to ask questions of your chosen Counsellor/Therapist to know their training and qualifications, peak body memberships, and therapeutic approaches used to see if they match your needs.
